Stromberg Carlson AU-33 Amp
This is a very clean 1951 Stromberg Carlson AU-33 Amp that has been modified into a Guitar/Harp amp. A very Retro Look amplifier. There are 3 inputs with channel 1 clean and channel 2 and 3 cascaded - acting as Drive and Master Volume to get some controlable crunch and distortion. The amp has had all the electrolytics replaced as well as any marginal resistors. When possible the original capacitor covers were used and "re-stuffed" with new caps. The early style mic inputs have been converted to 1/4" inputs and two 1/4" speaker outputs have been added and labeled for 4 and 8 ohms. A 3-wire grounded power cable has been fitted. The cosmetic condition is excellent for 63 year old iron . It has three big chicken knob volume controls, one small treble cut, one small bass cut, and one small volume control for input 3 which bypasses a power amp and goes directly into the 6SF5 mixer tube - this is basically a line in for an iPod or any other line device. It has 3 RED RCA 5693 preamp tubes (one for each mic input - these are mil spec grade tubes with low noise/microphonics), one 6SF5 mixer, one 6N7 phase inverter, one 5U4G rectifier, and 2 - Big Bottle 6L6G Power Tubes that are cathode biased output through a Hammond made output transformer. The transformer has mulitple secondary impedence taps (4, 8, 15, 250 & 500 ohms). The 4 & 8 ohm connections are hardwired to the output jacks but can be easily switched to other available ohm outputs. If you like to run the unusual amp - this is a very stylish find that will give you an American sounding clean channel as well as a British sounding crunch channel .
