1965 Sears Silvertone Console

This is a 1965 Sears Silvertone console that typifies the mid-60's long and wide Mad Man style. It is a solid state amp that, although only 15 watts, puts out a lot of clean sound. When we aquired it, only the left channel was working and the turntable wouldn't spin and was missing a needle. The cabinet itself only needed a minor waxing - it was in good shape. All the electrolytic capacitors were replaced in the amplifier and the tuner. The left channel problem was traced to a micro-break in one of the printed circuit board traces. Ironically during the restoration a old repair claim check was found from 1966 that stated the left channel was "weak" and included an estimate for the repair. So apparently this hadn't been working for almost 48 years! The turntable was completely disassembled and cleaned, polished and a new idler wheel and needle installed. The tuner was checked and both AM and FM worked. This beautiful console is now enjoying it's make-over with a new owner.
